Somatic Ecstatic Dance

Saturdays – once a month, 6:30-8:00 pm with Meike

Music and rhythm are languages that the body understands without words. Body language and movement are how it expresses itself.

In Somatic Ecstatic Dance, storytelling meets a guiding musical landscape and a lively space for experience. A supportive framework that still allows you maximum freedom in your own unique expression. Whether you move wildly and ecstatically or calmly and meditatively.

Somatic Ecstatic Dance is like a moving, embodied meditation. Whatever you have understood dance to be up to now, you can let go of it again. There are no steps or predetermined forms. It doesn’t matter what the movement looks like or whether it makes sense. Rather, it’s about expressing yourself freely and authentically in movement—as your body allows you to. One moment perhaps powerful and ecstatic, another perhaps gentle and meditative.

What is the difference between “classical” Ecstatic Dance and other types of dance?

In Somatic Dance, there is a different physical entry point each time. We take the perspective of a body part—for example, an organ, system, or other part of the body. In dance, we explore, feel, experience, and move from this perspective.

Each part of the body, such as the heart or the nervous system, has different qualities, tells different stories, and moves you in different ways. Unlike classical Ecstatic Dance, you are accompanied through the dance with a prepared soundscape as well as words and impulses. The impulses are not intended to dictate movement or choreography, but to hold the space for you so that you can discover and express yourself in movement—in your own individual way.

To maintain a good connection to the ground, we dance barefoot or with socks. In addition, our space is smoke- and drug-free. Feel free to bring an unbreakable water bottle to refill. You don’t need to know or be able to do anything to participate—anyone who enjoys connection and movement is welcome.

Costs: 25€ (USC/ Wellpass +15€)
